It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but that’s all about to change…permanently.
I’ve pursued my business career the wrong way for years. I’ve gotten involved with companies as a sales rep that immediately wanted me to market their way and no other ways. This also limited my potential success. I have worked 1099 “opportunities” that required me to be a certain place and do certain things and said I had the freedom to leave. I have worked opportunities where the company sabotaged my every effort to work hard and earn a living I could springboard from. Then are the government agencies that pose a risk to all business endeavors, such as the IRS.
If there is anyone who has found many ways to fail in business, I’m the guy. I have also never given up, and never surrendered. I am more excited today than at any other time in my life because I am finally moving forward.
I have to get this off my chest first. I attained a level of success as a recruiter for financial advisers. I earned the biggest paycheck of my life by getting on the phones and talking to financial advisers about moving from one company to another while waiting tables at night. Everything went well, then the restaurant started moving in the wrong direction. I struggled to stay in the office until I could get my big paycheck. I could only get one team to move, as the owner of the business refused to get a website for his business. Then, he wanted me to make calls all day for $11 per hour. My demands were that he build a website, or let me build a website for him for free. He declined. I quit. He’s now out of business (or at least out of that industry).
I was still waiting tables in the restaurant in Buckhead. The restaurant sales declined at night. Markets shifted. My schedule got shorter, and so did my money. I lost the financial gains I made in the last five years and my mere survival became threatened (again). But I still had the lessons I learned from my experiences that led to my biggest success to date, a check I earned in the mid five figures. My next goal is to move on and make that accomplishment seem like small change.
The object is to move forward, not backwards. However, success is not a straight line, and as long I am still breathing and free, I will never stop accumulating success, and avoid failure as much as I can…or at least learn from my failures. But I will never give up. Because I’ll never quit, I’ll never fail.
Here are a few quotes you can use to keep your head straight and focused on getting the outcome you desire in business and in life:
- “Never, never, never, never give in.”- These are the words spoken by Winston Churchill when Nazi Germany was attempting to bomb England int submission on the Battle of Britain in 1940-1941.
- “Keep Calm And Carry On”- This may sound familiar to you. The motivational poster published in 1939, Keep Calm and Carry On.
- “Illegitimati Non Carborundum Est.”- This is how I remember reading it the first time. A few Latin scholars have disposed it as not true Latin, but they miss the point entirely. It was reportedly on the back of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s nameplate when he served as President of the United States, and loosely translated from Latin “Don’t let the bastards wear you down.” The source of this quote is from Britain’s test of survival from World War 2.
Stay tuned, more on the way…soon!
